Minutes of a meeting of the Town Projects Advisory Committee held in the Council Chamber, Windmill Lane, Northam on Tuesday 18th November 2008.

1. Minutes of the Town Projects Advisory Committee held 16th October 2008

The minutes of the Town Projects Committee held on 16th October 2008 were approved and signed.

2. To consider projects for 2009/2010

(a) Festive Lighting

The Chairman reported on the current situation with regard to this year's lighting and it was thought that this needed to be extended next year and for this purpose the budget of £4,000 was considered appropriate and it was RESOLVED to recommend this figure to the Finance Advisory Committee for consideration.

(b) Hanging Flower Baskets

The Chairman reported that the brackets being fixed for the purpose of holding the Christmas trees also had the facility for hanging baskets. It was thought that with the co-operation of property owners, and with shared maintenance, it would be possible to have flower baskets during the summer season. It was RESOLVED to recommend to the Finance Advisory Committee that a sum of £2,000 be allocated for this purpose.

(c) Appledore Planters

Cllr Edwards reported that the existing planters on Appledore Quay, thought to be in the ownership of the District Council, required to be properly maintained for next year. It was RESOLVED to recommend to the Finance Advisory Committee that a sum of £1,000 be allocated for this purpose.

(Vote: Unanimous)

(d) War Memorials

Cllr Langton reported that he thought the War Memorials needed cleaning and there was a desire to have some additional planting at the Northam site. It was RESOLVED to recommend to the Finance Advisory Committee that a sum of £2,000 be budgeted for this purpose.

(Vote: Unanimous)

(e) Road Safety

Members discussed the various road safety ideas that had been put forward and in the knowledge that these schemes will be expensive it was RESOLVED to recommend that a sum of £10,000 be budgeted for.

(f) Street Cleaning

It was generally agreed that street cleaning needed to be improved and it was RESOLVED to recommend that a sum of £5,000 be included as an extension of the Northam scheme.

(Vote: Unanimous)

(g) Anchor Park, Appledore

Cllr Edwards reported that the playground equipment requires attention and it was RESOLVED to recommend that the sum of £2,000 be budgeted for.

(h) Other Schemes

The Finance Advisory Committee need to consider the following schemes some of which have not been costed at this stage:-

(i) Festive lights at Orchard Hill; (ii) Native hedge planting; (iii) Burrough Field and Seagate implications; (iv) Newsletter; (v) Westward Ho! Dog bins;

(vi) Purchase of other TDC assets.
